Pay attention to whether there is any grass between the ball and the club face. If there is grass between the two make sure you factor this in. The ball will have less spin and therefore roll out more meaning you can land it closer to you. From the fairway or a lie with little to no grass between ball and club face you can be more aggressive and know the ball will stop quicker when it lands on the green.
