This is a lake that is under control of the Soil Conservation system, and it sits in a City of Denton park, called North Lakes Park. A well known frisbee golf course surrounds the lake, and is heavily played by golfers.
I have fly fished it for about a dozen years, but finally quit when it became so silted-in that it quit producing.
The old creek bed runs through the middle of it, and that is the last place standing – for catching HUGE largemouth bass on fly. I have caught five-pounders out in the middle of this pond, but don’t have a kayak to get there anymore. (I am looking to buy a Old Town 119 if you know someone!)
On Easter Sunday, I made it out to the pond to see if it has changed over the years I have left it alone. IT HAS. It is very trashed out, the water appears permanently stained.
This pond could be a real showcase for Denton citizens, and guests, but since the City of Denton has no jurisdiction past the water’s edge, nothing happens. It’s a typical Denton case of, “Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory,” and we’re used to it around here.
