Still local, still pootling and following the mantra of no car, not far, no gnar! Still grateful that I have somewhere on the doorstep that is half decent though….. so no complaints.

Hopefully the end is in sight for the lockdown and this weather has continued to improve to the point where (in the last week of February) I was out there in just shorts a long sleeve top and summer gloves. Now this is great!

Ok, there was still some pretty claggy and clarty mud about which drained any pace but not full on slop in this area. Hardly any lens wipes needed, another bonus.

Effectively this is like a part 2. If you watched my previous video featuring Gemma Jones on her local trails, then this ride is where I decided to go next. I was oringinally just going to do one video but they felt so different, so it’s a two for one recording deal…so efficient. I basically reversed the route I did a couple of weeks ago as I thought, “lets get some miles on the clock to boost the fitness”. I also thought when I climbed it that it would make a great descent through Monk Wood.

So I took the route out of town on the Canal footpath up to Barow hill then back down to Whittington and then joined the surfaced bridleway that ends up heading up towards the Golf course at Unstone, though I obviously didn’t ride on the course itself! The drop through Monk wood is where this vid starts and its a great run all the way over to the other side of the Sheffield by-pass on the way up tot Barlow. The descent to Common lane was really running well and left me grinning especially seeing that PR. Finally I took a quick tour of Linacre in a final attempt to get a decent Strava time on the run past the top reservoir. Not quite a PR but fastest time of the year so far, I’ll settle for that.

Come on lets get the better weather and the small group meet ups and the sniff of some further away trails. Oh yes and lets get a new Bottom Bracket fitted!
