Dr Steve Colacurcio DC explains what a functional training workout routine consists of including core strengthening and stretching which is imperative to do a few days per week which can give us the best opportunity to stay relatively pain free and active well into adulthood, middle age, and retirement years. Steve Colacurcio DC is a NJ Licensed Chiropractor and massage therapist, he’s earned a bachelor of science in exercise physiology and he’s been a personal trainer since 1999.
Many of his patients that suffer from reoccurring joint and muscle pain do not exercise at all, or most of them exercise inadequately, so the main focus of his treatment is to educate patients on the safest, most effective workout routine that they should be doing a few days per week. For example, there’s multiple ways to stretch your hamstring muscle, but only a couple ways are safe. Where as an unsafe stretch can contribute to your back pain and prevent you from improving. Same goes for most muscles in the body, Dr Steve takes the time, 60 minutes one on one with all of his patients to make sure they are performing a stretch and a strengthen for all muscles in the body which gives us the best opportunity to improve faulty posture, and not loose our range of motion (flexibility) as we age, which allows our bodies to suffer from less muscle spasms while maintaining better posture, alignment, flexibility, and strong core stabilizing muscles. This can all slow the onset of arthritic change in our bodies because we all become arthritic as we age. So the workouts we adapt as adults, play a crucial role in determining the speed at which our joints degenerate and our cartilage wears.
