Collin Morikawa won the WGC Workday Championship using a new putting grip that dramatically improved his putting. Most of the focus in talking about the grip is on the “Saw” type right hand grip but much of the stabilization comes from his lead hand grip.
His lead hand is rotated counterclockwise so that the thumb is at an angle to the putter, rather than straight down the top of the club. With the lead hand rotated in this manner, the lead wrist can be more stable to breaking down during a stroke.
If you are looking for a quick fix for more stability in your putting stroke, try rotating your lead hand a few degrees counterclockwise. It will likely feel odd at first but it will become second nature with use.
