MASON, Ohio (WKRC) – In the midst of this pandemic, we are all looking for a sense of normalcy.
If you play golf, that exists in Mason. The state left it up to the individual counties to allow golf to continue with strict restrictions.
The Masters Tournament and all its pageantry was delayed, so you can’t watch one of the best golf tournaments on TV, but you can still play golf in Warren County.
“This is a very serious time the world is going through, and I think just a little bit of relaxation coming out and playing golf, a little bit of normalcy going on,” said The Grizzly’s PGA Head Professional Andy Horn.
Normalcy — but with a twist. Best practices are in place at The Grizzly in Mason — social distancing everyone in their own carts and those carts thoroughly cleaned after the round.
“Definitely not taking this lightly. Golf is very important, but the health and safety of our patrons is the most important of anything,” Horn said.
“It’s important for people to exercise and be a little bit healthy when it comes to stuff like that, so, yeah, we’re grateful and happy that they’re still open,” said Mason Boys Basketball Head Coach Greg Richards.
Richards taking advantage. All golfers are benefitting from a rule change in the name of safety.
“No ball washers, no benches. You’re not touching the flags, and we’ve raised the cups up so that when your ball hits the cup, your ball is holed out,” Horn said.
A putting advantage at The Grizzly allowing you to lower your score while still flattening the curve.
Another measure that could improve your round — tee times are spaced 20 minutes apart. That assures you’re far away from the groups behind and in front of you so you won’t be waiting on slow players.
