Cobe Life Driver Fitting

D-Fit Squad

I decided to share this particular Driver Fitting because it demonstrates how additional Distance isn’t everything. Most golfers believe a Driver Fitting is about, improving contact, lowering your Spin, minimizing dispersion, and most importantly gaining distance. Well it can be about those particular goals, but for some golfers it isn’t. In fact Mario’s Launch Angle and Spin were too low to maximize his Distance, and Control off the Tee. Actually adding Spin, and increasing Launch was beneficial in his case.

We tested a number of shafts, but there was an obvious winner. His numbers with the Stock Ping Tour 65 Stiff flex shaft were decent as far as Distance, and Spin were concerned in comparison to his Swing Speed. Left Right Dispersion was brutal though. 51 yards of Left Right Dispersion is far too much to trust making a full swing off the Tee on a course. In the Simulator Mario was averaging a little over 100mph with the Ping Tour 65 shaft. On the course you can expect your swing speed to be a little lower because of the additional pressure involved. having little to no faith in directional control will cause your swing speed to be further reduced. At that point you might consider switching to a Fairway Wood off the Tee.

With the Project X Handcrafted Hzrdus Black 6.0 Mario reduced his Left Right Dispersion by a whopping 35 yards! That gave him the confidence to really let go, and swing away. As a result his average swing speed was approaching 110mph. Even with the expected drop off of swing speed on the course. Mario would still average a higher swing speed than his Simulator average with the Stock shaft.

I love Driver Fittings that work out this well. Knowing that the next time Mario steps out on the course he will be eager to Tee it up and let her rip. Being confident off the Tee is the first step to shooting a low score on every hole.
