This is a great drill for many issues in your golf swing. I will cover one here.
If you want to get the feeling of what it feels like to approach the ball from the inside, this is a wonderful drill! This is how I would prescribe to do it:
1. Use a 7 or 8 iron slightly teed up and approximately in the middle of your stance.
2. Assume your regular stance and posture.
3. Drop your trail foot back until it is level with the back of your lead foot.
Take some swigs swinging at 50 – 60%. It is crucial that you don’t whip the club inside on the takeaway. Use an alignment stick so you can see where the club is when it is parallel to the ground (should be parallel to your alignment stick which is parallel left of your target). Finally, feel your weight build into your trail heel and then transfer to the balls of your lead foot and then back to the heel. Work on this feeling as Ben Hogan did!
