A lot of the talk about the takeaway is where the club should be halfway back or waist-high. What’s even more important than that is a quarter of the way back.

Using two clubs – one to swing and one to put on the ground behind your lead heel and in front of your trail toe – you’ll create a simple and effective checkpoint for the start of your takeaway.

When you take your club back, match the club you’re swinging with the one that is on the ground, especially paying attention to the face angle. If everything is in line, you should be able to swing back and through to hit a good quality golf shot.
