In Episode 6 of our ‘Story of a Golf Club’ series, we return to England’s Golf Coast to visit Formby Ladies Golf Club, a course that is sometimes overlooked by visiting golfers to the region who play some of its bigger neighbours.
Formby Ladies is totally unique in the UK, as the only ladies only golf club with its own 18 hole layout, that operates separately but harmoniously with the men’s club, with its own quaint clubhouse that boasts the finest cakes in the North of England!
At 5,300 yards Formby Ladies represents something the game of golf needs more of. A layout that’s visually stimulating, challenging on the mind as you work the ball through its corridors of trees and heather lined fairways, around a plot of land that isn’t onerous on your time or taxing on your legs. Whilst the course was initial established in 1899, it has benefitted from further improvement in the early 20th century, with input from Harry Colt.
The par 3’s are truly epic, short, intricate and hugely enjoyable! We hope that when you visit England’s golf coast to play some of the UK’s finest golf courses, you include Formby Ladies Golf Club on that list!
