This is an SOS appeal, to help drive awareness and save golf on the wonderful Cleeve Hill common! Petition to save it can be found here – #savegolfonthehill

Our latest episode of our ‘Story of a Golf Club’ is a sad story, but a story we feel needs to be told. Golf on the Hill, 5 miles outside Cheltenham has been enjoyed since 1891, originally laid down by Old Tom Morris with only modest changes in its 130 year history, but sadly Tewksbury Borough Council have deemed golf at Cleeve Hill common as not being financially viable in today’s climate.

Yes, the course is stunning! Yes, it has some of the most exciting green complexes we’ve ever witnessed, BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY this is the truest second shot golf course we have experienced, and it is the epitome of why golf in the UK is so special. Golfers of any ability will struggle to lose a ball, and at a peak green fee of £15 it is COMPLETELY accessible to all!

Fun, historic but most of all accessible to golfers of any ability and financial means, places like Cleeve Hill should be the lifeblood of golf in the UK, and the way we grow the game, and bring future generations into golf!

Similar clubs in Scotland and the USA have benefitted from global support through tough times. Sweetens Cove. Goat Hill. Brora. All have had innovative souls around the world passionate about protecting a legacy and finding a way to ensure places exactly like Cleeve Hill can be enjoyed by the next generation – please share this video with your friends, your golf network… but most importantly – go and play it!
