Jason Day PGA Tour Golf Review. #teamtaylormade Australian Golf Review with a quick trip to Sheely Beach and the Greg Chalmers Jack Newton Junior Classic.
Another week, another Top 10 finish. Jason Day is on fire. How good is golf!
Welcome to the Jday Podcast. I’m Zach France.
It was another great performance from Jason Day this week – What is going on? Maybe he just loves playing without fans around? Perhaps it was the rest his back got when the PGA shut down. Whatever it is he needs to keep doing it. Without the bogey on the last he would have tied for second at 10 under.
This result sees Jason climb to 42nd in the world. Elsewhere on the course Lucas Herbert t49th E par marc leishman t52nd 1+ par matt jones t59th 3+ and cameron smith t59th 3+. Congrats to Justin Thomas on fighting back to win over a fast finishing Brooks Koepka who could have given it a real shot if he did not put his last drive into the water.
My team taylormade Shot of the week came on the Par 5 16th in the 3rd round. After a great drive he had 227 yards to the pin. He landed it short of the front pin position and ran it onto the green to about 1ft and sunk the eagle putt.
Where has Jason’s improvement come from? I wonder what really is in his bag? His irons say that they are P760s but are they really? Maybe he has dipped into the tailor-made innovation trailer and picked up a set of new irons. Rumour has it there might be some new ones coming out soon. Maybe this explains his outstanding form.
Jason broke with Cole Swanton as his caddy a number of years ago and now he has split with him as his swing coach as well. An impressive 20 year+ partnership. They have such a rich history together. I hope that it is an amicable break and they can stay lifelong friends. Colin Swatton coached Jason from when he was 12 and first came to America after losing his dad from cancer.
Elsewhere in the world of golf… Ryan Ruffles finished 10 under tied for second on the Korn Ferry Tour – this moves him up 24 places to 30th in the rankings. The top 25 and a tour card is getting closer. At the Barracuda Championship at Tahoe – the one stableford event on tour Cameron Percy ended up tied for 24th, Cam Davis T32, and Rhein Gibson 60th. Senden, Baddeley and Charmers missed the cut. Speaking of Greg Chalmers….
With so much golf being played around the world you may have missed the Jack Newton Junior Golf Greg Chalmers Junior Masters run at Shelly Beach. Great course, tricky greens, awesome location. Thanks Dale and team. Congratulations to the winner – Lachlan Chamberlain from Pymble Golf Club playing his last Jack Newton event. Lachlan who plays of +6 ended up three under for the event – The future of Australian golf is looking good.
Coming up – Bring on the PGA Championship at Harding Park with an 11m US prize pool that the aussies would be very happy to split between themselves. Adam Scott is back, Matt jones lucas herbert, cameron smith, marc leishman and jason are all playing along side tiger woods!!!!
AND THAT’S THE DAY
