Highlights, Notes & Quotes:

-When you have an injury, you want to leave it alone, allow it to get healthy and strong, then start massaging it, stretching it, rolling it
-During the winter, athletes write less in their training logs
-You are as much an athlete in December as you are in July, and your commitment should be the same

“Winter Training does not mean that we train less, it means that we change the focus and intensify of what’s within the workout window.”

-Reflect on how lucky we are to be able to live this ultra endurance lifestyle, to train, to enjoy the process, to challenge ourselves, to feel the joy, the adventure

How to Handle Missing Workouts?
-Do not stress about a missed workout. Instead, regroup and continue training.
-Have the confidence that you will have the fitness as you string together many good days in the coming block, that a missed workout or two won’t make a big difference in the grand scheme of things

Why ‘Zone 2’ Training?
-Build a capacity to go faster at the same effort level and tax on the body
-Develop ability to fuel and hydrate at that effort level
-Training fast taxes the body too aggressively, does not produce a big enough adaptation over time
-The goal for an ultra endurance event is to get through it as ‘quick’ and ‘efficiently’ as possible
-There are no shortcuts in ultra endurance training around Zone 2 fitness

-Reflect on what you accomplished this past year, the amazing things you accomplished as an ultra endurance athlete, even remaining injury free or progressing to a certain level of performance
