MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The 100th WIAA boys golf state tournament was in full swing Monday at University Ridge, with several local teams and individuals in contention for a state title.
In Division 1, Middleton set the early pace, finishing Day 1 at nine-under par to sit atop the team leaderboard. Waunakee is currently fourth, while Oregon is 13th and the Crimson Tide are tied for 14th after the opening round.
On the individual side, Middleton’s Samuel Forslund leads the Division 1 field at six-under. Edgerton senior Owen Wagie is tied for second at five-under, highlighted by a smooth bunker escape that set up a birdie putt he rolled in. Another Middleton Cardinal, Berrin Reiter, sits fifth, and Milton’s Kade Wieland is sixth at three-under.
In Division 2, Clinton’s Jared Romano had a long birdie look come up just short, tapping in for par as he looks to climb the leaderboard in the second round. Edgewood’s Cash Soma posted three-over par to lead the Crusaders on the day, with Edgewood tied for fourth in the Division 2 team standings.
