In Between Clubs? Here’s the Smart Play Every Golfer Should Know

Stuck between clubs on the course? It’s one of the most common situations golfers face—and making the wrong choice can cost you strokes.

In this on-course lesson from Pebble Beach’s iconic 7th hole, we break down how to choose the right shot when you’re between distances. Instead of forcing a perfect swing, learn how a simple adjustment—like choking down on a longer club—can help you control distance and avoid trouble.

What You’ll Learn
– How to handle in-between yardages with confidence
– Why swinging harder isn’t always the right play
– How choking down improves distance control and accuracy
– Smart course management to avoid short-sided or long misses

This is a simple, repeatable strategy you can use on any course to hit more greens and give yourself better scoring opportunities.

  1. My 54° goes about 63yds. My 50° goes about 80yds. I’m an ok player. Today shot a back nine 39 on a 6000yd course from the white tees but not very long. At 56yo and 35 yrs of play, this is something I’d love to fix.
