Cassie had a couple of lessons without Coach Dad and picked up a couple of useful tips on balance and posture but also we realised that the teaching concepts were not the same as we use, particularly with regards how the wrists work in the swing!
Coach Dad and Cassie work on not rotating the club face but it seems the swing method being used by the other coach (who also is very professional and has many good student players in his academy) was the old style – open and close clubface method – with the wrist rotating through impact.
Coach Dad was taught that way when he grew up, but switched about 3-4 years ago as he found it less consistent, effective, requiring massive amount of practice that most people don’t have (certainly not Cassie).
So today we are working on removing this from Cassie’s swing and getting back to the good ball striking she had been getting previously using the methods demonstrated on this Channel by Coach Dad. Plus keeping the good areas of the other coach’s lesson which does work well with Cassie’s swing method.
This experience is an important reminder that the concepts from different coaches need to be consistent if you want to switch – and is also one of the dangers of watching YouTube videos from many different coaches – as they may propose drills that are dependent on a swing concept that is not the same as you have. So can cause more problems than they solve!
Time to rebuild confidence back up with this practice session.
