The event was hosted by Princeton/Green Lake and featured schools from Division 1 through Division 3 competing on the Links course. Ripon finished with a team score of 356, while Whitnall won the meet with a 316.

“Not exactly where we’d like to be for our home course, but there was some tough competition,” Ripon head coach Paul Wiegel said.

Sophomore Max Reabe led Ripon, tying for 20th out of 112 golfers with an 11-over-par 83. Fellow sophomores Henry Pier and Sam Rhoden tied for 45th and 54th place, respectively, shooting 88 and 91. Junior Ian Arnetveit rounded out Ripon’s scoring with a 94, tying for 67th place.

Tigers place fourth at Nekoosa mini-meet

Ripon placed fourth last week Tuesday at a South Central Conference mini-meet at Lake Arrowhead Golf Course in Nekoosa, finishing with a team score of 176.

Berlin won the eight-team event with a 153, while Mauston took second at 172 and Wisconsin finished third at 175, narrowly ahead of Ripon. Westfield (189), Nekoosa (194), Wautoma/Wild Rose (198) and Adams-Friendship (200) rounded out the field.

Ripon was led by Pier, who shot a five-over-par 41 to place fifth individually. Berlin’s Hudson Masters earned medalist honors with a two-under-par 34, while teammates James Paskey and Cayson Starks each carded 38s to finish two-over. Mauston’s Kason Messer placed fourth with a 39.

Sophomore Blake Bradley was Ripon’s next highest-finishing golfer as he tied for 11th place with a 44, while Arnetveit tied for 15th place with a 45 and Reabe tied for 19th with a 46 to complete the Tigers’ scoring golfers. Rhoden also golfed varsity for Ripon and tied for 25th place with a 49.

Wiegel said the Lake Arrowhead layout proved challenging for his players.

“The Lake Arrowhead course we played for the Nekoosa meet is tough,” Wiegel said. “The guys mostly posted scores above their averages, which as I always mention, will bump us down the rankings. Just a couple strokes from each player makes a huge difference, and we saw that in Nekoosa. With two meets left until the conference tournaments next week, I’m hoping we can go in the opposite direction. We’re in second place for the conference right now as a team. Berlin is going to be tough to displace, but we’ll see.”

Up next

Ripon will take part in one of its final two meets until the conference tournament Tuesday, when it travels to Cold Water Canyon in Wisconsin Dells.

The Tigers also will hit the road Thursday to compete at Castle Rock Golf Course in Mauston, before heading Tuesday, May 19 to Bullseye Golf Club in Wisconsin Rapids for the 18-hole conference tournament.

The Mauston meet will get underway at 4 p.m., while the conference tournament starts at 9 a.m.
