Take your next workout out to the beach with this sprint exercise. When training at the beach, exercising barefoot is not recommended. Keep your running shoes on to provide a layer of padding between your feet and the sand.

When sprinting on the beach, take off with energy and dig in as hard as you can. Run in a straight line, with your knees tracking forward and your heels in, not flying out. Pump your arms as much as you can and keep your chest up.

Not only does running on sand up the resistance compared to running on a sidewalk or treadmill, it can also increase muscle engagement. You can activate your calf muscles far more on sand than you would on a treadmill.
