What are some of the things that affect the club face when hitting a golf ball? The grip is definitely a huge factor of this. If your grip is too strong, then your clubface will tend to be shut by the time you make contact with the golf ball. If your grip is too weak; then your club face can be too open at contact.

The great majority of golfers I see have their grip too strong, so when they go to hit a golf ball they try to lock up their wrists and this creates slices. If they were loose with their wrists when they hit the golf ball with a strong grip then they would hit big hooks. So the grip affects the club face.

Next time you grab a golf club, check out your grip. Is it strong, weak or neutral? You want a neutral grip, this will then have much less affect on the club face when hitting the golf ball. Then you get the wrists nice and loose and you will start hitting long straight shots.
