THE SHORT STORY: UC Davis opened the 25th Anniversary El Macero Classic with a strong showing on its home course, carding a team score of 289 (+1) to sit in second place through 18 holes. The Aggies trail tournament leader Pacific by five strokes heading into Saturday’s second round, with four of their five starters finishing inside the top 25 on the individual leaderboard. Curtis Da Silva paced the Aggies with a 1-under 71, finishing the opening day in a tie for fourth place.
FIRST TEE
Curtis Da Silva wrapped up his opening 18 holes as the leading Aggie, firing a 1-under 71 to finish the day in a tie for fourth place overall. Da Silva’s steady round featured the lone under-par score of the day for UC Davis.
Lequan Wang provided a strong contributing round, carding an even-par 72 to slot into a tie for 11th place on the individual leaderboard.
Ryan Firpo and Zhenxian Zhang delivered matching performances on day one, both posting rounds of 73 (+1) to finish the opening round tied for 25th.
Shaun Nair rounded out the starting lineup for the Aggies, posting a 76 (+4) to finish the opening day in a tie for 69th place.
Treed Huang, competing as an individual, carded a 78 (+6) on Friday to sit in 80th place heading into the second round.
