Is the NBA 65-game rule limit working for awards? Is it good or bad? We look at arguments for and against the rule, historical games played, and the larger issue of player health impacting the fan experience…and maybe the (fun?) unintended chaos brought on by the rule.

I do think the NBA should be consistent.
Why is it only 55 games to win a Statistical Title.?
But 65 games to win an All NBA team.
Make them the same minimum.
They are all end of season awards. Have some consistency
Implement 40 minute games like euro league ball. That's the realistic solution. Problem is nobody wants to sacrifice anything.
maybe limiting a player's MPG? that's even harder to do
so 3 pointers ARE ruining the game??? lol
So we saying, MJ wouldnt be so special in this era.
As soon as everyone decided to prioritize layups and threes, post play and the mid-range game became rare, and that sped the game up. The easiest way to get a layup is in transition and the most effective threes come off offensive rebounds. Faster play + more possessions = greater chance of sustaining injuries. I don’t have the data but I guarantee sprained ankles are up since the mid 2010s. Guys are way more reckless when closing out on threes than they are on mid-range jumpers, generally due to the fact that they’re recovering late and have more ground to cover.

ok, i used to like your content. i thought it was fairly good. but this is a horrifically bad take, and you should be ashamed of yourself for it.
good video.
people talk about shortening the season as a solution, but I don't think this change would have the desired effect. the analogy to pitchers in baseball is a good one. if games were decreased from 9 to 7 innings, the effect would not be that starting pitchers pitched more. instead, starting pitchers would throw harder and be taken out of the game earlier, and relief pitchers would pitch a larger proportion of the game (and also likely just a larger raw number of innings). I think a similar approach would occur if the NBA season had fewer games. teams would have fewer games to differentiate themselves for qualification or seeding and would be incentivized to run their starters harder, which would probably decrease both the raw and proportional amount of games that stars play (due to increased rest and injuries). the only solutions that will have a real effect are those that actually address the cause and force teams not to run as much, play as hard, cut as hard, etc.
Not only is the sport boring because it's just 3-pointers and Paint Points for 98% of the shots taken (look at shot charts – an absolute binary pile of dog shit since the Curry era) – but these over paid wimps can't even play full seasons anymore.
If Load Management is needed as a fact – reduce the schedule to 60 games and quit baiting people into giving these garbage owners/players money when have no idea if they're going to play or not before you buy tickets in advance. GRIFTERS.
PS – Jokic would have died during Shaq's era and he'd be a second rate Vlade Divac
You're a schmuck and a LeBron/this dainty soft era MARK if u dont like the 65 game rule.
THEY DID IT TO THEMSELVES, YOU "EVERYONE GETS A MEDAL," NEVER GO ALL OUTA, frigginTwink
Them making the 65 game rule without actually addressing the pace of the game increasinv which is why every9ne is getting hurt now
Sadly the oldheads wont watch this
If the style of play was such a problem, it would apply to every player in the league. Yet somehow, some of them play 75+ games. Why is Scotties Barnes able to play 77 games? He's even more active than the average player, where are the injuries? Check the most games played stats for this year. A bunch of really good players have played over 75 games this season, yet a league wide conspiracy is suggested because a few bums prefer to ride the bench than to do their job. Also, most superstars don't even play entire quarters anymore. How are you so tired, when you only played 6-8 minutes in the 1st quarter, then return to the game with 7 minutes left in the 2nd quarter? Then there's halftime to rest, TV timeouts, etc. We'd like to think that all of these guys work on their game and body like Steph does, but in reality, there's as many bums in the league now not taking care of their bodies as there was in previous times.
Why bros house so empty
The rule now makes players want play through injury to be eligible which is dangerous, instead of slowing the game down or anything to make the game safer to play
This has always been my nuanced take. I think its also to the question of whether athletes have gotten significantly better over the decades. They may not be physically more talented, but they are more willing to take risks because they have modern medicine and recovery to fall back on. A guy in the 60s wasnt gonna try to jump out of the gym if one wrong landing meant his career was forever over. Nowadays, one bad landing only means you miss a few months
LeBron averages 71 games a year, get over it
It’s an absolutely fair rule. Now the NBA could either spread the regular season longer/do a better schedule to avoid back to back games. Or bring back old school defense ( hand check defense) so they stop running around like chicken. But 65 games is absolutely fair.
I …HATE the #NBA
… Or is it just #AdamSilver and the ILITERATE OFFICIATING? Or, is it players like #JoeslWmbiid #LeBronJames #LukaDoncic & Co. who literally act like CHILDREN ADTER WVERY WINGLE PLAY either having a MELTDOWN because of a TEAMMATE they are trying to throw under the bus? Or CRASHOUT over a "MISSED CALL" as they are teying to GET TO THE LINE for the 19th Or 20th time ?!?
LOAD MANAGEMENT should be a MINUTES RESTRICTION like WEMBY has been on, NOT HOW AMNY GAMES THEY GET TO MISS if you are the TEAM , and THE NBA needs to be held accountable for ALL THIS BULL@%$ #DNP games for literally NO REASON. NO IRL or acrual problem other than LEBRON IS TIRED AND NEEDS A GAME OFF
SO MUCH FOR EVERY SINGLE TICKET bought that noght with the sole intention if seeing SUPERTARS ??!
Lmao no. They are soft today. The game is not much different now than it was 20 years ago and they were fine then. Now they shoot more 3’s and play no defense
The product on the floor isn’t great and they’ve had the 3 point line for 60 years almost. They allow players to travel now (gather step) and it’s directly leading to injuries. Crazy how you can claim the product on the court is better lol
Nah, the owners were tired of paying super-max deals to guys playing 50% of games. Those end of season awards factor in when negotiations start. If a player says "I won MVP, All-NBA, DPOY or 6th Man", the value goes up. They wanted at least 80% to justify paying. Now a player is inclined to play through minor injuries to secure a larger contract…and teams are inclined to hold them out to secure money or even assets.
They should literally count every game a player misses as 48 minutes played 0s in every stat
I always say make is a soft cap. So under 65 games it takes a percentage of their votes, but if you’re good enough you can still win and you are never 1 game away from making it.
You have no idea what you’re talking about.
…i’d be curious to see how it would play out, if they got rid of all the back to backs….
