My wife is wanting to get into golf, and she begins lessons in a couple weeks.
She has some used TiTech irons (7-9), driver, wilson pro staff hybrid 4 and 3 wood.
The bag is in rough shape and they are desperately needing new grips. Is it worth it, or should I just get her something newer? I'd say it's above 50% chance she stops playing at the end of her lessons, but I want to give her the best shot at enjoying the journey and (against all hope) sticking with it.

Grips worth more than the clubs probably.
If you want to keep ehem, a grip is not expensive and can make a huge difference.
The clubs look like they’re beat to hell so I’d probably regrip the clubs myself with an amazon kit and if she takes to the game then get her a newer set of clubs off marketplace
What’s wild is the first set I ever got had a 9/P titech XG4 in it and I still game it, I call it my get out of jail club because it’s good for anything under 110 yards lol
I say regrip. Grip is something you don’t want to mess up in the slightest, so get her something good to grab onto. It’s only a few clubs anyway.
Honestly I got some fake golf grips from ebay and regripped my 30 year old set myself. They feel great especially compared to the old grips. Cost about $30-$40 for ~15 grips and a little extra for the tape and solution on Amazon. At worst she doesn’t like golf and you aren’t down a few hundred for a new set of clubs. At best she likes the feel more and you get to spend a few hundred on newer clubs, lol.
Bin, buy a cheap 2nd hand set.
Well for starters, if she doesn’t have a full bag, then regripping is not worth it whatsoever. It helps to play majority of your clubs with the same grip, or else you’ll never get a feel for your swing.
Now I’m not a “club connoisseur” by any means, but those clubs look pretty dang old 😅. Not sure where you’re located. But you can go to Dick’s sporting goods, and get a full bag Top Flite women’s starter set for about $275.00 USD.
That would give her the best chance of finding her swing. With much better starter clubs. And they’d be brand new with new grips.
That way, if she doesn’t ever use them again, you can easily sell them because they’re not custom. And you never spent too much money to begin with.
She needs a full bag, to understand her distances and ball striking ability with each club.
Information is power in this game. And you’ll never be good at what you don’t know. But she’ll never get good at this game or want to play it long term—without a full bag to call hers, to find her game correctly.
Best of luck!
Try soap and water maybe with a very aggressive brush. If she enjoys herself either regrip or get some new sticks. I really don’t think the clubs matter much for the first year but the groups should be usable.
I wouldn’t recommend putting a grip on the club head
junk, cut off the heads and use the shaft to stake tomatoes
It’ll cost you about $10-$15 bucks a club to regrip those. Assuming you have 10 clubs, you’re looking at around $100 bucks or more. If you sold that set, you’d be lucky to get $50 bucks for it, even with new grips. So, financially, it’s a bad move. But, if you’re sentimentally attached to them, $100 bucks isn’t a bad deal to improve your playing experience.
Just buy a decent used set off marketplace, and you can easily resell them for basically the same price if she gives up on the game
