President Donald Trump told the New York Post he talked to Tiger Woods following the golfer’s rollover crash and DUI arrest.
Woods was involved in the crash on March 27 in Jupiter Island, Florida, where he has lived since 2007. Woods was arrested and charged with a DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test by the local sheriff’s department. He pleaded not guilty.
The arrest report states officers observed Woods’ movements as “lethargic and slow,” and that he had trouble following directions for the sobriety tests. He blew all zeros on a breathalyzer test, but the report states officers found two pills in Woods’ pocket identified as hydrocodone, an opioid used to treat severe chronic pain.
“He tested negative for alcohol, as you know, and he is under a tremendous physical pressure from his various ailments, you know, the back and the leg,” Trump told the New York Post in a phone interview on March 31. “He lives a life of pain. He has a lot of pain. He’s an amazing guy. He’s an amazing athlete. He does have pain.”
Why is Trump commenting on Woods? Not only does the president love golf, but he is also related to Woods’ girlfriend:
Tiger Woods is dating Trump’s ex-daughter-in-law
News reports circulated in March 2025 suggesting that Woods was dating Trump’s former daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump. In a later Instagram post, Woods confirmed his relationship with Vanessa Trump.
“Love is in the air and life is better with you by my side! We look forward to our journey through life together. At this time we would appreciate privacy for all those close to our hearts,” Woods said in an Instagram post with pictures of Vanessa Trump.
President Trump reacted positively to the news, saying, “Let them both be happy.”
Who is Vanessa Trump?
Vanessa Trump is the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr, and both live in Jupiter, Florida.
On Nov. 12, 2005, Donald Trump Jr. married former model Vanessa Kay Trump, formerly Vanessa Kay Pergolizzi. Donald Trump introduced Donald Trump Jr. to Vanessa at a fashion show in 2003. The couple married at Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach in front of about 370 guests, reports show, with the service officiated by Donald Trump’s sister, Judge Maryanne Trump Barry. Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump were 27 when they wed, weeks before both turned 28 in December 2005.
Vanessa and Donald Trump Jr. had five children together − Kai Trump, Donald Trump III, Tristan Trump, Spencer Trump and Chloe Trump − before they divorced after 12 years of marriage in 2018.
Kai Trump has called Tiger Woods her favorite golfer
Kai Trump, 18, is the eldest granddaughter of President Donald Trump and the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and Vanessa Trump. She is also an avid golfer like Woods and her grandfather.
In February 2025, Kai Trump became the highest-valued player in girls’ high school golf after announcing her first lucrative endorsement deal.
Kai Trump attends the same Palm Beach County school as Woods’ son, Charlie Woods. She committed to the University of Miami for fall 2026, and Charlie Woods signed with Florida State University for fall 2027.
On Logan Paul’s podcast earlier this year and on her own YouTube vlog, Kai Trump has said Woods is her favorite golfer.

Tiger Woods claims he was talking to president before arrest
Tiger Woods claimed that he was “just talking to the president” on the phone prior to his DUI arrest in Florida.
Tiger Woods was seen in body camera footage released Thursday, April 2, by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, talking on the phone as he was approached by police in the wake of a rollover crash that led to his arrest last week.
After he got off the phone, he told an officer he was “just talking to the president.”
Woods was arrested on suspicion of DUI after crawling out of his rolled-over vehicle following a two-vehicle crash on Jupiter Island just after 2 p.m. ET on March 27.
The golfer was driving a Land Rover northbound at high speeds before overtaking a truck pulling a trailer with a pressure cleaner and clipping it. The speed limit posted was 30 mph.
It was not explicitly clear if Woods had just gotten off the phone with President Donald Trump, but Trump did send well wishes in the hours following Woods’ accident.
