Court records show the golf legend, arrested Friday on DUI charges, had “white pills” in his pocket, court records show

Tiger Woods was traveling with “white pills” in his pocket when he sideswiped a truck and rolled over his SUV near his Jupiter, Florida home last Friday, court records show.

The five-time Masters winner was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, property damage and refusal to submit to a urinalysis test after police say his Range Rover clipped another vehicle Friday afternoon while he was driving impaired.

The 50-year-old had bloodshot, glassy eyes with “extremely dilated pupils,” a sheriff’s deputy in Martin County, Florida, wrote in an arrest affidavit. Two white pills identified as hydrocodone were found in his left pants pocket during a search after his arrest, the affidavit said. Hydrocodone is a prescription opioid used to treat severe, chronic pain.

Woods was not injured. The driver he clipped helped Woods out of his own overturned vehicle from the passenger side, since the SUV’s driver’s side was pinned to the ground, the arrest affidavit said.

He told responding officers that he was distracted by his cell phone and by changing the radio station before the crash, according to an affidavit filed in his criminal case. “Woods stated he was looking down at his cell phone and changing the radio station and did not notice the vehicle in front of him slowing down,” the deputy wrote.

As he was questioned, Woods was sweating profusely, the deputy wrote, and “had hiccups during the entire investigation.” Woods was arrested shortly after 3 p.m. Eastern time.

A breath test taken at the Martin County Jail registered 0.00 on both samples, indicating no alcohol was detected, the affidavit says. He refused to submit to a urine test to determine the presence of chemical or controlled substances.

Woods told the deputy he had more than a dozen surgeries on his leg after he shattered it in a 2021 crash in the Rolling Hills Estates area. According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department’s crash investigation, Woods was traveling at around 85 mph when he lost control of the Genesis SUV he was driving, which subsequently struck a tree in the 2021 incident.
