Tiger Woods DUI Update: Everything We Know

Michael Smerconish examines the latest developments surrounding Tiger Woods following his recent car accident, in two insightful conversations that approach the story from very different angles.

Criminal defense attorney William J. Brennan breaks down the legal implications that can follow a high-profile crash – what investigators look for, how liability is determined, and whether Woods could face any legal exposure based on the available facts. Brennan offers a clear-eyed look at how cases like this typically unfold behind the scenes.

Veteran golf writer Michael Bamberger – known for his long tenure at Sports Illustrated and current work with GOLF Magazine and GOLF.com – provides deeper context on Woods’ career, legacy, and the recurring challenges that have defined his life off the course. Drawing from his article, Bamberger reflects on why incidents like this continue to raise familiar concerns about Woods’ well-being and future.

The interviews offer both legal analysis and personal perspective on one of sports’ most iconic figures, exploring not just what happened – but what it means for Tiger Woods moving forward.

  1. How can you defend the indefensible, Woods maybe ought to run for President in 2028. He has the right sort of personality. Stupid, only thinks of himself, just like Trump.

  2. Maybe when he kills a little 4 year old boy or girl the law will get this drug addict criminal off the street.what a shame just because he's tiger woods. He can smile and know that absolutely nothing will happen to him. That's very sad to know and see. What a creep loser.

  3. The truck he clipped said he was driving extremely fast and there was no shoulder to pull over to. Marijuana drivers drive slow as a rule.

  4. Mr. Smerconish, tell us what you really think. Tiger woods is no better than any other degenerate driving around high. The first couple times maybe, the fourth…go directly to jail. Let’s put your kid in the middle of the road with this dirt bag driving. He did the right thing cause the lowlife knew he was high. I’ve lost interest in wanting to follow you.

  5. Must be nice to drive around drunk and high crashing range rovers all the time and not get in trouble

  6. Anybody else sick and tired of the rich and famous getting away with crimes..? What the hell is going on.. why rules don’t apply to them 😓

  7. "I'm still for Tiger." Please. No doubt the guy used to be able to play golf but these days the only thing he can drive is a golf ball. And in his personal life he's a complete embarrassment. Hogan, Palmer, Player, Nicklaus, Trevino, Watson — they all were gentlemen. Tiger is anything but a gentleman. Instead, the more we get a look inside his real life, the more he reveals himself to be a total out of control, poor judgment, and maybe entitled, dick. I used to be a complete and total 100% fan. But I'm done with him now.

  8. Let's face it he is a opioid junky and continues to have serious car crashes one day he will kill someone . PS I have not yet heard one comment of sympathy for his victim .

  9. If Tiger’s reckless behavior killed a child of yours you might have a different opinion – it’s people that have let him take no accountability for the 4 driving incidents and plenty of other poor decisions that have allowed it to get this far – if you have a soft spot then give him some very tough love and have some consequences

  10. I understand about being tired in the afternoon . Fibromyalgia and Mecfs cfs . I just adjust my life . By 4pm most days I am home.
I was just a pharmacist had to go on disability . I still golf in a league once a week 9 holes . Tiger😮 get a driver ! I understand if you have to take opiates for pain No shame in hiring a driver .

  11. Hard to listen to these two foolish old men slurping Woods. I’ve wonders how they might have felt had Woods killed somebody. Come on, do better.

  12. As Tiger Woods ages, he looks more and more like a deranged Disney elf. Time to put down the cocaine, Tiger, and turn in your keys.

  13. Michael making excuses for high profile people is so American. Look no farther than the political scene in America and around the world. Laws for thee, Laws for me!

  14. So this is what judges let off? A potential killer? No respect for the Justice system. I feel so sorry for the cops that are the only legal soldiers that try to fulfill the law for citizens. Sad

  15. These guys are being so incredibly partial with their softball takes on what Tiger has done here. It's so blatant I have to almost wonder have they been paid off, or is their celebrity fandom/worship really that off the scales? It is absolutely not too harsh or cynical to say that Tiger should be convicted for this and pay for his crime with time in jail. And obviously he has to lose his driver's license. But I'm worried that he will yet again get away with just a slap on the wrists, cause that just seems to be the way things are done in America nowadays. Different rules for the rich.

  16. Going down just as planned. Run don't walk away from Trump family why you still have life 😂 he's going to place you in the poor house 😅😅

  17. Dude…marijuana? I do it and do’t know anyone who gets high and drives 90 MPH in a 30 on a narrow 2 lane road🤷

  18. I’m just a country lawyer and former prosecutor but the DUI team included DRE (Drug Recognition Expert) personnel.

If he was under the influence of a CNS depressant his pupils will burn him and then factor in pulse, respiration, speech, and cognitive behavior along with body cam video showing his behavior.

Also, HGN is not “touching your nose”. Is it horizontal gaze nystagmus which is tracking of the eye and reaction including hippus (to the extent hippus is admissible in FL).

Of course it is a very defendable case, most are, but it is also very prosecutable too. I question our learned attorney’s training and experience in DUI cases.

  19. Woods is an entitled mess a creep just because he’s rich doesn’t mean he should oaway with this crap Keep him away from the wheel he should never be able to drive again

  20. I can’t recite the freaking alphabet backwards when I’m sober. C’mon, is that really allowed as a test of sobriety?

  21. Can't you just smell the stench of yet another NDA, when it comes to the Golden Child? I concur with the many on this comment board about "what it's like" to be normal. We would all have had a Bus Ticket stapled to our a**, after the Riviera crash. Look up "menace, and you might find Woods' latest mug shot, along with a brief but poignant note regarding excuses and their invalid nature. Do the rich and happy folks of Jup Life have a island trolley? Perhaps the Community, while voting on ridding itself of the evasive iguana, might find a moment to consider Eldrick's future driving plans.

  22. Wake the fuck up fellas! He's an addict and the media keeps supporting this fuck up. Would you change your tone if he killed a love one of yours? Stop fan boying this asshole. He could afford a driver and he's a father himself, embarrassing. Trump will get involved cause he's a fan boy of this asshole too! How many times has he covered shit up because of fan boys like you. Man up! Hope PGA tour sets serious punishment for him and they do the right thing! Hope he gets booed off any events and disappears very soon.

  23. Why not a "Reckless Driving" ticket/charge in addition to DUI ????? Oh yeah laws and rules do not apply to him. "It's the SUV's fault". Ridiculous.
