Made these hole maps (MS Paint + AI) to turn range sessions into simulated course play.

Pick a hole, hit your shot, then mark roughly where it would land based on distance + shape. Play your next shot from there.

Simple rules:

  • Trees = punch out (50–80 yds max)
  • Water = +1 stroke, drop
  • Bunker = next shot is half distance

Built this because range time wasn’t translating to real play. Still testing, maps aren’t perfect.

Great idea! I do the same while practicing by using the GHIN app and opening up my home course and playing the first few holes.

Sweet. I sometimes practice the same way but I just play my go to course

I sometimes do something similar at the range, but instead of imagining playing a real hole, I’ll just select a shot and target area as if I’m progressing through a hole while I club down. I try to focus less on what I might score on the hole and more about staying in rhythm and keeping a consistent routine throughout. But yeah, occasionally I’ll try to execute a punch out or stinger to mix it up and simulate a bad angle.

As a math guy, I appreciate the half-hole yardages. As a golfer, they seem kinda useless. Edit: actually never mind the half yardages work my bad

Overall, I like the simple design, reminds me of the old crosshatch artwork yardage books.
