AUGUSTA — As the area prepares for Masters Week, several signs have been placed at various locations to direct drivers to their location.
The signs are located in downtown North Augusta, the foot of the 13th Street Bridge in downtown Augusta, Broad Street at the corner of 13th Street, Riverwatch Parkway and John Calhoun Expressway in Augusta.
The signs have information with a radio station for drivers to listen to for traffic information on their way to Augusta National Golf Club.
The signs came up one week after the city of Augusta announced its traffic plan, which includes a temporary traffic signal, real-time traffic updates and rideshare options.
Separately, the city of Augusta announced a pilot program between the Georgia Engineering Department and Causeway Technologies in relation to the ongoing Broad Street Improvement Project.
Causeway one.network, a leading digital platform for roadwork coordination and communication, will support Augusta’s Broad Street Improvement Project and is the first road agency partnership in Georgia, according to a media release.
The goal of the partnership is to minimize construction disruptions to enhance safety for residents and commuters in completing the project.
The city of Augusta’s engineering department will be able to have real-time updates on roadwork and traffic impacts.
The pilot program will include live data from Broad Street construction zones that will be integrated into navigation apps like Waze, Google and Apple Maps, notice of lane shifts and work zones, and coordination between different departments like weather-related schedule changes, the media release said.
The Broad Street Improvement Project was designed to revitalize Augusta’s historic heart which includes a major upgrade to the streetscape and infrastructure including new sidewalks, handicap ramps, parking, raised bike lanes, landscaping, trees and the James Brown Linear Park.
