Good news for anyone who’s been staring lovingly at their golf clubs all winter, we’ve officially turned a corner in Sioux Falls.
One of the surest signs that spring has arrived, or at least is flirting with us, is when local golf courses start opening their fairways again. And right on cue, the Sioux Falls public courses are back in action for the 2026 season.
According to Dakota News Now, Elmwood, Kuehn Park, and Prairie Green are now open and accepting tee times. In other words, it’s time to dust off the driver, find that one glove you didn’t lose, and prepare to slice a few shots straight into some trees.

Last weekend’s weather didn’t hurt either. With temperatures skyrocketing into the 80s, yes, in March, Mother Nature is off her meds again; it felt more like mid-June than early spring. Naturally, golfers across the Sioux Empire flooded the courses, eager to shake the rust off their game.
This week’s forecast looks a little milder, but still more than comfortable for a quick nine or even a full round if you can sneak away. Just keep in mind, course conditions are still a work in progress. The ground remains very dry, so for now, it’s push carts only, with motorized carts limited strictly to cart paths. Think of it as an early-season fitness program. Who needs a gym membership when you can haul a bag of clubs around the fairway, right?

Old Man Winter could still show up with a surprise snowstorm like a bad slice at any time and put the kabosh on your golf game for a few days.
If you’ve lived in the Dakotas for any period of time, you’re used to it.
When it comes to golfing season, it seems like we are never out of the woods until at least early May!
For now, it’s game on, time to tee it up and enjoy the start of another Sioux Falls golf season.
