A Golf Journey Through East Anglia

Sam and Tom set the sat nav due east for two days of golf across East Anglia. First up is Sheringham, one of the Top 100 courses in England, where we sample some of the most dramatic coastline you can play alongside in British golf.

After an overnight stay in Great Yarmouth, we visit Great Yarmouth & Caister, a fascinating course that weaves its way inside and outside the racecourse, before finishing the trip at Flempton, a delightful J.H. Taylor-designed nine-holer on the outskirts of Cambridge.

A huge thank you to the clubs for hosting us. We had a fantastic couple of days exploring golf in this wonderful corner of the country, made possible by the generosity and hospitality of the three clubs we were lucky enough to visit.

  1. Sorry about the damage to our course boys 😢
Remedial works have taken place although we still have temporary greens where the damage is still evident…
A couple of months should see us back to a condition worthy of our designers.
Hopefully you will be able to get to visit us in the not too distant future 🤞

  2. Congratulations on another great video. Sheringham is a lovely experience; striking an iron to a green while a steam train runs parallel alongside is something I won’t forget. Watching the puffing white smoke rise and feeling the air vibrate with the grind of the wheels and the pounding of the engine is truly awesome. Throw in those elevated tees and clifftop views, and it’s a wonderful assault on the senses.

I haven’t played Caister or Flempton (yet!) but I can highly recommend Rookery Park south of Lowestoft little further South. It lacks the sea views of Sheringham and Cromer (another beautiful spot) as it's situated inland, but as Swiss Tony might say: with a little work, it could be a supermodel. It’s very pretty, flat with some stunning undulations, silky smooth in all the right places, and both difficult and rewarding.

  3. Pleased to see Great Yarmouth profiled which to my mind has been massively underrated for a long time. My memory is a little hazy but the short 4 (6 or 7?) and the longish 4 into the dunes (around 10/11) are just brilliant holes.

  4. Great video and love the radar course visits… Flempton is on my list of courses to play for sure as close to home. Royal Worlington definitely the best 9 hole course in Suffolk (& maybe the world)!

  5. Great video! Would love for you guys to cover Gog Magog some time. Hugely underrated club with 2 courses built on chalk on the only hill in Cambridge

  6. What a cool trip. I'd love to take in that view from the 4th green at Sheringham. Well done again, guys.

  7. Nah, golf in the East of England is terrible. Nobody needs to make the trip to take advantage of it 🤐 😉. Nothing to see here…..

  8. What an absolute delight of a video, and thank you so much for showcasing the wonderful Great Yarmouth & Caister. Having grown up learning the game there, and returning to the club after a stint in Surrey – it will always have my heart. It's quirky, rough round the edges but has oodles of soul and character. Keep up the good work gents.

  9. Sherringham spent a significant amount of money improving their green side bunkering, and boy did they improve it. There’s now fabulous run offs the greens into small difficult gathering bunkers without any obvious join marks. I only know because I played with a member the committee and pointed the improvements out as we went round. Perhaps only bettered by Brancaster in East Anglia. Overall it’s a great golfing experience.

  10. Great video, as a member of Sheringham and a regular player at Flempton, it's great to see both featured. Small point… Flempton is in Suffolk, and so is Worlington!
