With the TGL final approaching next week, more individuals are anticipating the upcoming PGA events, including this week’s Valspar Championship and next month’s Masters.
Much of that is due to the team aspect of TGL, which hasn’t necessarily caught on like the individual nature of other events. Those events have produced big-name stars, including the legendary Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, and Bryson DeChambeau.
DeChambeau formerly played in PGA events, but now plays for the LIV professional golf tour, which was formed five years ago. He currently ranks among the top two money leaders this year and the top five all-time money leaders for LIV Golf. Other big names appearing in the top 10 include Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, and Dustin Johnson.
Also founded in 2022, TGL was a golf league created by TMRW Sports, which had Tiger partnering with McIlroy and sports executive Mike McCarley. While neither TGL nor LIV has taken off in terms of public appeal, DeChambeau has floated an intriguing idea, basically calling out Tiger’s TGL for a match.

DeChambeau recently pitched the concept of his Crushers LIV team in a game against Tiger’s Jupiter Links TGL team to see which of the two teams is the best.
“How about the Crushers goes up against Jupiter Links in an 18-hole match, 4-v-4 stroke play. We can just call them out right now and say let’s go. Let’s do it,” DeChambeau said, per Golf.com.
“Why not? That would be fun. Show them who’s the best, who’s the best team in the world, or any of them. LA, it doesn’t matter. We’d go up against them. Jon Rahm’s team, we’d all go up against them. How great would that be for golf, too, by the way?” he asked.
DeChambeau is currently participating in LIV’s first-ever tour in South Africa for an event at The Club at Steyn City. On the other side, Tiger is contemplating whether he’ll be able to participate in The Masters.
However, there have been other fun promotional golf events that drew interest, including various sports celebrities facing off in matchups. Among them is a high-stakes, televised series called “The Match,” which has seen former NBA teammates Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson take on NFL teammates Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.
Having Tiger’s name attached to an event always helps with the popularity, and a highly-publicized team event like that could be just what LIV and TGL need, as the PGA continues to dominate ratings.
It would seem the ball is now in Tiger’s court, or on his green rather, to decide if he wants to accept DeChambeau’s challenge in what could make for an entertaining and unique version of golf, potentially attracting more viewers than before.
