Ive been creating a Golf ball detector for the past few months new and got to the point where i can show it off a bit! Its been a very slow process and teaching a model from the bare bones is not fun, however after 10,000+ images and videos I got to a good starting point.
Im actually in the process of creating an app for android and IOS. The idea was to have a very efficient tool for those pesky balls that seem to vanish out of thin air. More for the casual player.
This is where you guys come in… I need LOTS more phots/videos of your golf ball in the wild, muddy, tall grass, short grass, partially hidden, in leaves – ALL OF IT.
Ive made a website where you can submit your photos/videos with the added benefits of getting early access to the app when I’m happy with the detection!

I’ll try to remember to help you out once spring makes in the northern Pennsylvania. I think this could be a very useful app
Need to match this tech with drones that drop a coordinate and communicate to a GPS on the cart/device once they detect a change and we all can play like the pros

Is that number representing the likelihood of it being a golf ball? It’s a cool concept. I do think most of the time I can’t find my ball it’s because I am looking in the wrong area, not just overlooking it’s lie in the grass. But if this was reliable and fast enough it could definitely be useful.
Can it help with plugged lies when it’s wet? Looks awesome
What’s the maximum water depth that it can detect? My balls sink pretty deep.
On that note, what’s the maximum depth in the underpants that it can detect?
My son laughs at me because he usually finds my ball about 30 yards behind where I was looking.

If you could figure out a way to incorporate this into working with smart glasses you’ll make a billion dollars. My biggest fear though with this technology is that with more golfers being able to find their balls relatively quickly courses will drop t time spacing to four minutes haha

This is super cool! Two features that could be nice are a tone when it finds a ball at high confidence, and for it to give a general distance away. I’m thinking for visually impaired people. Do phones have a polarization option/are they polarized? If the app could switch that on, it would remove glare and make pattern recognition a lot easier. How much are you going to charge for the app?

I finally made the decision to stick with the “same ball” last year. I picked yellow TruFeels. Like the Third round of the year I whip them out and what do you know, dandelions everywhere in the rough where my ball always lands….
What will your pricing model be for the app when it’s ready to release?
This is cool. There’s nothing in the ball right? It just detects the white against the green kinda thing? Also, keep an eye on peanut.
I hit one pure last week down the right side of fairway over a hill. The thing teleported to another dimension and vanished. I would have loved to have had this on my phone. Would love to help next time I’m out.

Honestly, this is a fucking great idea. You should try to partner with one of the bigger golf-tech companies, or try to get them to buy you out. Make sure you patent this.

Would absolutely love to use this. I have some friends that work near golf courses too, if they had access to this we would never pay for golf balls again! This is awesome
Does it work for yellow balls? By the way, someone already did a ball-finding app named “Dude, where’s my ball?”
If this could work with something like the Meta glasses, that would be awesome!
Instead of blue boxes with text, make the vision grainy af and everything in red scale. Then have a cross hair disc that floats around the display locking in on targets, displaying all of its info along with the best way to terminate it.
The hardest (normal) condition to find a ball for me is in the glare of an autumn sun with scattered leaves everywhere. Then add some rough and it’s almost impossible.
