The Broomstick putter is one of the most controversial items in the golf world today; called into question because of potential rule breaking that involves some of the biggest names in golf today. However, why is it such a problem, and just how long have people been talking about this altogether?

Well, that’s what we’re gonna try to figure out in this video.

  1. Maybe a solution is that the putter needs to be the shortest club in the bag? How do you define what’s a putter. Seems like an impossible rule to define. Always a loophole

  2. Ide like to see all the people clutching their pearls and crying about his putter take it for a round and see how they do 😂..now that would be comedy. Ban it or don't idc..but grown men crying about what another grown man does with a big metal stick is wild..grow up

  3. I think the closer pros are to amateurs like you spoke to in the video the better. If one of my buddies pulls out a broomstick he’d be roasted so hard he’d have to hole out every time.

  4. Just because a form of cheating isn't widespread or clearly causing better results for those that use it doesn't mean that it shouldn't banned, in my opinion. I know Bhatia isn't proving he's the best putter in the world or anything but I simply believe his style is against the spirit of the game.

  5. But nothing on the arm lock which is anchored I don't give a shit what the usga says. I tried the long putter when you could anchor it and couldn't figure it out. After the anchor ban I cut 2" Off and hold it off the chest an inch or 2 found it much easier. There isn't much thought that goes into these rules. Just like dropping the driver length from 47-46. No thought to consider how difficult it us to dead nut and also control a 47" driver. Guys that swing over 120 aren't the o es using them typically.

  6. We need to ban long putters for those on tour. Make it so they cannot be longer than the shortest club in your bag. so a wedge length max. ( sure, if you want a longer putter that's fine, but then ALL your clubs need to be that length or longer)

  7. Akshay is quite clearly anchoring, as is Bernhard Langer. Plainly put, a few guys shouldn’t be able to bend the rules to their advantage. Make putting an art again

  8. Honestly I’d rather see someone anchor with a belly putter over brysons ugly arm lock putting. Everytime I see him putt I get annoyed

  9. I just hate people who cheat. If it's a rule they should follow it. On a side note…continuous putting should come back.

  10. You lost the script at end of video. Akshay and Will cannot win without long putters, at all. That’s not semantics, a journeyman and yearly tour winner is totally different. It’s needs a full ban and would change the golf rankings significantly. Lot of guys using them would be off the tour in a year guaranteed.

  11. Anchoring should’ve never been banned. If it really gave golfers that big of an advantage everyone would be doing it

  12. Ban the broomstick putter completely. Blame the golfers that are anchoring them. The ruling bodies gave them leeway to use them without anchoring, but golfers have chosen to continue to anchor. So it is time to ban them completely.

  13. Just wait until the golf ball rollback takes effect for amateurs. That's another shit show waiting to happen.

  14. I’ve seen both Jimenez and Langer use their thumbs to anchor against their chest at a tournament when the camera wasn’t on them. The broom sticks needs to be banned.

For those that say this isn’t an issue, I disagree. I used the belly putter before becoming illegal. What I noticed is that the putter face stayed square. This is the most important part of the putting stroke. That anchor was the pivot point that simply can’t be done with standard putting.

  15. I think a lot of you are living in echo chambers when it comes to opinions about golf. The only comments I've ever gotten about my broomstick putter have been people wanting to try it out of curiosity. Nobody I've met has ever reacted negatively to it. If the pros themselves don't see much issue with it then why are so many of you so loudly complaining? Personally I just like not having to bend over so much to putt. I find the broomsticks more comfortable to use. Also, if it really gave players such an unfair advantage everyone would be doing it.

  16. Half the comments admit the putter is a handicap, while the other is crying cheating due to unfair advantage… yet we all know the players who use it, and we know how many tournaments they've won with it. Personally, if you ain't a scratch handicap, stfu and ga back to the range

  17. I tried belly putting and the broomstick. Both didn't last very long as I found with the belly, if it wasn't perfect, the push and pulls were worse. Broomstick was pretty much the same. Neither improved my putting.
Went back to a normal putter, changed my grip to both hands together and locked to stop the wrists being involved. I have used that grip for over 25 years now and am a decent putter. Keeps my score down. And I use the same style putter all the time. On my third putter now as I change it every 10 years.
Personally, I don't care what people use to putt, and if they need a belly or broomstick to help them putt better, so be it.

  18. The broomstick putter is an atrocity and anyone with an ounce of pride would never use that monstrosity. I award you no points and may God have mercy on anyone who owns one.

  19. Have yet to see one video or photo that doesn’t make it pretty clear he is not anchoring. He wears loose fitting shirts which drape down onto his hand. The rule isn’t it can’t touch. If that was the case, the same grip that’s legal in a tight fitting shirts would become illegal in a sweatshirt. That would be crazy. The funny thing is he is like 110 pounds. He could wear a tight fitting shirt. Ain’t like we’re talking about Chris Gotterup or McIntyre over here.
