Handicap is around 35 (according to the in range app) I only ever visit the range but have been going a a on and off for the last few years.

Last year I maybe played a dozen times, I get put off going and playing a roung because I'm terrible and don't want to get in the way.

Had my clubs stolen so brought the vice set to get me up and running again, this year I'm determined to get out there. I'm trying to head to the range once every two weeks at least, I usually head there on my own or when I do go with people theyre also pretty shit too

What am I doing so wrong that my driver /hybrid is basically the same as my 9i?!

Your yardages alone aren’t enough information for anyone to comment on what you’re doing wrong. Get a lesson is the only advice anyone can give you that is worth listening to.

Are you trying to scoop it? You’re not supposed to try get under the ball, you still hit down on it like an iron.

There’s too much going on there to be focusing on the driver.

8i, 9i, PW are great clubs to learn a swing with.

I’m guessing you have a very low swing speed and make inconsistent/poor contact often.

Stick to your mid irons get them on the short grass move the ball forward get lessons build confidence win the open.

    The plan is simple

  6. At this stage, stats aren’t going to tell you anything useful. Get some lessons, post some swing videos, figure out what you’re struggling with and find some videos that give you basic drills to help with that. Feels like you’ll need to start at fundamentals, stance, grip etc and work from there.

  7. Lessons. You don’t need a full bag, either.

Invest in a lesson or 3. Setup is huge and getting the input from a pro is worth it to REALLY know what to work on

There are any number of reasons why you hit your irons longer than your Driver and Hybrid, none of which we can diagnose.

Get a lesson from a professional

If you really want to get better spend the $100 on a lesson and you should be able to walk out of that with an understanding of you biggest flaws, better setup and a practice plan to at least get it so the range time you are putting in is helping you and is not just hitting balls over and over

You’re having trouble with your longer clubs.

Either you’re not making good contact, or your swing speed is too low because you’re not letting your hands go.

Try choking up to see if that helps.

You play once a month and consider practicing every two weeks putting in enough effort to get better. Especially as a complete beginner, you need to practice at least 3 times a week to see much of any improvement. At this point you really should not be out on the course at all,
