CHINA GROVE — East Rowan’s golf team celebrated two birthdays by winning another South Piedmont Conference match on Wednesday at Warrior.
Cam Honeycutt turned 15, while Griffin Robbins turned 16.
East’s 148 topped Salisbury (156) by eight strokes. Carson (168) and South Rowan (168) were a dozen shots behind the Hornets. West Rowan (170) rounded out the top five teams.
It was a chilly day, but conditions were much better for golf than they were on Tuesday, and some strong scores were posted.
East’s Brody Benfield shot 35, a huge comeback for him after some struggles with the wind on Tuesday. Salisbury’s Sam Goodman, West’s Samuel Faulkner and Carson’s Jacob Rockwell also shot 35s to share medalist honors.
Honeycutt shot 36, while East’s Brady McIntyre shot 37. Robbins shot 40 to contribute the fourth counting score for East.
East’s fifth golfer is a returner, Mason Mainville. He shot 46.
Salisbury’s Bryant Davis plays tennis and plays for the golf team when he can. He was available on Wednesday and shot 38. John McCoy’s 41 and Nolt Lescoe’s 42 were the other counting scores for the Hornets. James Brincefield shot 47.
Dane Wheeler shot 39 to lead South. Cooper Welch was next with a 42.
