I liked the Highlands course, but as a 7-index, playing from the 6600 tees, I might have bit off a bit more than I could chew on a cold, very windy day. Nothing like hitting 6-iron 140-yards or 220-yards or anything in between. It is a tough course with a lot of blind shots, which, as a first timer, was kind of frustrating. You think you hit a good shot, get up to where you think it landed and you're looking at a little creek or foot long fescue. You can't just spray it out there and have a decent shot in. I played the back much more conservatively than the front, but didn't score much better. Would love to play it a dozen times to see how I improve. Shot +6 on my cap.
I had a great caddie on the Keep (thanks Luke). It is an absolutely amazing course and he made it a better experience. Tough greens. Winds were blowing 35-mph all day, pretty rainy, and 40F when we teed off. Played from 6300 yards due to the weather, which was still a lot. Had on 3-layers until about the 13th hole. Still, a wonderful day. Views for ages. Can't say enough about how great the course is. Links style at the top of 2500' mountain. Tricky, fast greens, even with the rain. Wide open fairways (I think I only missed 2). I suspect in the summer, the fairways give you a lot of rollout, in this weather, not so much (had 2.5" of rain the night before). Shot +4 on my cap, which given the weather, was one of the better rounds in my career. I'd play this course every day if I could.

It looks awesome, but isn’t it in the middle of nowhere?
How much did this cost you? Been thinking of doing a trip up there
“Rory McLemore”
Ya I like a good chunk of his music

For those who haven’t played McLemore, if you play the Highlands Course, be sure to order a pimento cheese BLT at the halfway house and a Tropicalia IPA to wash it down with. This is a tradition for me and my golfing buddy.
I’m gonna pop some tags
Awesome course. Played it two days in a row a while back. Rained like hell the first day but day 2 was beautiful.
The pitch and putt outside the clubhouse is killer as well.
As a counterpoint, I found it to be one of the most overrated courses I’ve ever played.
But to each their own.
Playing that and The Keep next weekend for a tournament, excited!
We must have played The Keep the same day this week. Absolutely brutal conditions but the course is a gem. The Highlands course leaves a bit to be desired, decent course but needs a bit more attention on the maintenance front. Overall though the McLemore and Cloudland resort is a wonderful spot.
Looks bloody gorgeous. Bucket list for me for sure.
