FLEMING ISLAND, Fla. – Harrison Blech posted the best finish of his career by tying for third out of 61 golfers Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Spring Break Invite at Eagle Harbor Golf Club.
The senior finished with a score of 71-72-75 = 218/2-over par, posting his score of 75/3-over par during the final round on Tuesday. Blech’s final score is the lowest he has shot in a 54-hole tournament for his career. His previous low score for a 54-hole tournament came at the 2024 Southern Invitational, when he shot 71-72-75 = 218/5-over par to finish tied for 18th.
This is the first time Blech has finished in the top five of a collegiate event in his career. His best finish before this event was at the 2024 Matthews Auto Collegiate Golf Invitational, where he tied for seventh at 70-72 = 142/2-under par.
The Montebello, N.Y., native’s performance at the Sacred Heart Spring Break Invite helped the Binghamton golf team tie for second out of nine teams at 299-294-296 = 889/25-over par, just two shots off the lead. It is the third time this season that the Bearcats have finished in second place at a tournament. Binghamton previously was the runner-up at the Blue Hen Intercollegiate and the Matthews Auto Collegiate Golf Invitational last fall.
“It was great,” said Binghamton Head Golf Coach Bernie Herceg regarding his team’s performance. “One of the better events coming out of the winter like this. It is attributed to the hard work the guys have been putting in this winter.
“There’s some things to learn from coming out from the start of the season, but we got a lot of rust off, which is what this is for.”
Alex Patel also tied for 11th with a score of 73-76-72 = 221/5-over par, a career-low score in a 54-hole tournament for the Madison, N.J., native. This is the second time the freshman has finished inside the top 20 this season. Patel previously placed 10th at the Blue Hen Intercollegiate.
Sean Shen tied for 26th at 79-75-73 = 227/11-over par. Brandon Conner finished one shot back of his teammate at 80-72-76 = 228/12-over par, which led to the senior tying for 28th. Jack Tebeau, meanwhile, tied for 31st at 76-75-80 = 231/15-over par. Jackson Vesper, who competed as an individual, finished tied for 35th at 76-78-79 = 233/17-over par.
Manhattan won the team title with a final score of 285-296-306 = 887/23-over par. Merrimack’s Rafli Sati took home medalist honors with a score of 69-73-71 = 213/3-under par.
Binghamton next competes at Georgia’s Southern Intercollegiate, which is held on Monday, March 16 at Athens Country Club in Athens, Ga.
