The new PING i540 irons are designed with a new inR-Air technology, which is designed like an airbag behind the clubface to attenuates frequencies for improved sound and feel without restricting bending. Additionally, the PING i540 irons also feature a lighter and shallower face that allowed for more tungsten weighting to be positioned strategucally for more stopping power.

  1. Disclaimer – I love Second Swing. I buy so much a their Dallas store that most of the staff knows me on site.

But seeing Drew hit 100 mph 6-irons does nothing for the regular golfer. SS says they do it because their fitters hit so many things and we can compare apples to apples. But it's comparing caviar to what the rest of us eat. For an iron set like this, you want to know if the landing angles are decent for regular golfers. Drew telling us it's 'easy to launch' at 98 mph is like Henry Cavil saying it's easy to just go up to any gorgeous woman and get a date. Not relatable.

There was very little until the end about the feel (which most people immediately want to hear about this series as it's been it's the consistent criticism of it). It was just James treating it like a personal fitting session for Drew and them geeking out over how it would fit the elite 1% of ball speed players.

Again, I love SS. Spend way more money there than the people who will blast this comment – I just with their YT content was helpful to the average golfer who swings a 7-iron somewhere between 75-85 (I'm right at 81-82) than Drew's 98. Other channels have testers who can throttle down their swing to more typical speeds. Would love to see SS do the same.

  2. I changed my i230 to Titleist T250 a month ago… I was waiting for those irons… but did not know when they were supposed to be launched… too bad . Look way better than the new i240! While the Titleist look great!

  3. Interesting – there is of course significant loft jacking the 6i std loft is 25.5 degrees, even the retro loft is 27.5 degrees which is 2 degrees stronger than my i210s.

Not sure what launch angle Drew might normally have, but from the video, the launch angle was about where I would want from a 5i maybe a 4i. But against that the spin rates and descent angles were excellent, just what I would want from a 6i.

As age creeps up on me, the i540s are very tempting
