HILTON HEAD, S.C. — The Richmond Spiders find themselves in second place among 15 teams after a marathon 36-hole day at the Low Country Intercollegiate at the Golf Club at Indigo Run Monday. Richmond is at 37-over par (613), eight shots behind leader UNC Asheville and two shots in front of a pair of team teams for third at 39-over par: Appalachian State and tournament host Wofford.
“The greens are brand new, so they are very very firm,” said Spiders coach Calle Barlow. “We stayed tough and patient today and are looking forward to continuing to stay tough! They learned a lot their first round!”
Freshman Addie Doroh led the Spiders with rounds of 74 (+2) and 76 (+4) and is tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard at 6-over par (150).
Two more Spiders are in the top 20 with Doroh: junior Maya Beasley (14th at 8-over par) and sophomore Katie Magner (tied for 15th at 9-over par).
Senior Hannah Lydic is tied for 38th at 16-over par (160) and senior Olivia Wilkie is tied for 41st at 17-over par (161).
Richmond’s 109 pars Monday were the most of any team and UR’s 48 bogeys were second fewest of any team.
A pair of Spiders are competing as individuals at the event. Sophomore Caroline Thompson is tied for 57th at 22-over par (166) and junior Heather Appelson is tied for 63rd at 24-over par (168).
Tuesday’s final round will begin with a shotgun start at 9 AM.
