DALY CITY, Calif. (SMU) – SMU men’s golf sits in third place at the Desimone Invitational with freshman Ben Steinmann holding second place.
 
The Mustangs climbed to third place after round one of the tournament. They shot 12-under in round one trailing only TCU and Arizona. The team shot eight-under in round two to maintain third place with a strong finish to the round. SMU is nine strokes back of first place. The Mustangs are in front of eight ranked teams including No. 4 Texas and No. 10 Pepperdine.
 
Steinmann, a freshman from Switzerland, posted his best day as a Mustang shooting rounds of 67 and 65. He posted just one bogey on the day through 36 holes. Steinmann eagled the 538-yard 14th hole nearing the end of his day. He sits in second place with a three stroke cushion on third place. At 12-under, Steinmann is one stroke back of first place.
 
Zachary Kingsland carded two-under par rounds of 70 and 71. He eagled the 508-yard par five ninth hole. He sits in a tie for 28th.

One shot back sits Christian Clark in a tie for 33rd. He carded just four bogeys on the day on his way to rounds of 72 and 70. One more shot back of Clark is Will Sides. He came out of the gate with a 67 before posting a 76 in round two. He sits at one-under par in 39th place.  Gabe Post holds 64th after rounds of 73 and 74.

 

The Mustangs will tee off at 12:10 pm CT / 10:10 am PT on Tuesday. SMU will be paired alongside golfers from TCU and Arizona State.
