DESTIN, FLORIDA – #6 UT Tyler women’s golf has taken a commanding lead at the Emerald Coast Collegiate as they fired a second round 281 to lead by 17 heading into the final round at the Sandestin Resort & Club.
 
The Patriots shot the second lowest round of the day as a team, bested only by St. Mary’s, who shot one shot better at 280. They are the only team to break the 580 mark after two rounds of action.
 
Round two of the week saw Lucy Kate Smith and Karina Duran lead the program, shooting 69 and 70, respectively. Smith’s round was marked by four birdies and 12 pars as she vaulted eight spots into a tie for second. Duran vaulted 16 spots into the top 10 with her effort as she made two birdies to just one bogey and added 15 pars.
 
The final two counting scores came from Emmerson Doyle and Martha Laremark, who each fired an even par 71. Doyle made three birdies to three bogeys to climb into the top five on the leaderboard. Laremark climbed seven spots to inside the top 10, making a birdie and an eagle to counter three bogeys.
 
Arnie Taguines would fire a 73 in round two, moving herself into a tie for fifth on the individual leaderboard.
 
After two rounds, the Patriots lead the field in par four and par five scoring average at 4.14 and 4.67. They are second in par three average at 3.10. They lead the tournament in both eagles and pars, and are third in birdies with 22. They also lead the field in fewest bogeys and double bogeys.
 
Smith will enter round three just one shot back on the individual leaderboard. Taguines and Doyle sit three back, and Laremark and Duran are four back.
 
UT Tyler will look to close out their second tournament win of the spring semester on Tuesday after winning The Southern Invite back on February 16-17.
