Mi Hyang Lee’s near hole-out for eagle on the 72nd hole of the Blue Bay LPGA snapped a near nine-year victory drought for the South Korean.
The 32-year-old opened with a whopping 40 on the front nine, losing her three-stroke advantage, and had to dig deep to collect her third career title. Lee gave credit to longtime LPGA looper Chad Payne for keeping her positive.

“I think the key point was to just get back to basics,” said Lee. “I think was too much trying to do something on the front nine so I just switched off my mind, and then my caddie helped me. So, yeah, I think my mind was the difference.”
Lee made $390,000 for her efforts, taking her career earnings to $6,135,936. China’s Weiwei Zhang finished runner-up for the second time in her career, earning $239,531.
It was a strong start for a couple of rookies as Japan’s Erika Hara took a share of 10th, earning $51,145. Duke grad Erica Shepherd took a share of 15th, earning $38,118, in her first start as an LPGA member.

This marked the first tournament of the season on the LPGA with a cut. The 83-player field had a purse of $2.6 million.
