John Fitzmaurice emerged victorious in the Jumeirah Golf Estates OMA Monthly Medalford, with a stellar round of four under par, net 68 on the Earth Course, Dubai.
A total of 102 Members participated in the event on Saturday, with the men playing from the Tournament Tees, and the Ladies from the Forward Tees in an individual Medalford format.
Fitzmaurice secured the victory by a narrow two-stroke margin, delivering six net birdies during his round. “It’s been an amazing day here at Jumeirah Golf Estates,” Fitzmaurice shared. “The Earth course was in great condition, and I couldn’t miss a fairway today!’
In the Gross Medal Division, Mark Schoombie continued his strong form from recent weeks, taking the win with a two-over-par, 74. With no players shooting level par or better, this was a testament to the tricky course setup. Close behind was Jay Aaronson, who also finished on three over par, 75.
Division A, for male golfers with a handicap index of 10.4 and below, delivered a great battle as always. Benjamin Tomkins emerged as the division winner, posting an impressive score of two under par, 70. Thomas Griffiths claimed second place, finishing two shots behind on level par, 72. In third spot was Oliver Lalani, on a back nine countback, also on 72, just missing out on the silver medal.
Then, Division B, open to male golfers with a handicap index of 10.5 and above, saw Richard Bernans take the top spot with an impressive three over par, 75, across the challenging host venue of the DP World Tour Championship.
The Champion Lady of the day was Teresa Sheepwash, who impressed with a very strong round of two under par, net 70, which also placed her second in the overall medal leaderboard.
In the Junior Division, Ryder Eatson clinched victory with a score of five over par, net 77.
Steve Pyle triumphed in the Seniors Division, delivering a brilliant performance to finish level par, net 70.
In the Stableford Division, Craig Rooney claimed victory with a superb 38 stableford points, narrowly outplaying runner-up Mike Samuel, who scored 36 stableford points.
During the afternoon’s prize presentation, Cameron McWhinnie, Assistant Golf Services Manager at Jumeirah Golf Estates, spoke on behalf of the Golf Operations Team. “The Earth course was in fantastic condition – we are now in the lead up to the Amateur Open, and Club Championships later this month, and the Agronomy Team’s hard work to prepare for these events in evident in today’s course condition.”
Jumeirah Golf Estates eagerly anticipates an exciting array of upcoming events in March, following this successful edition of the Monthly Medalford.
