Pinewood Prep opened its boys’ golf season last week with a pair of victories.
Pinewood hosted Northwood Academy at Legend Oaks March 3 and claimed a 170-179 victory. Seventh grader Reid Merrill fired a 1-under 35 in his first varsity golf match.
The Panthers took on Summerville March 5 and edged the Green Wave 179-180. In only the second varsity match of his career, junior Hunter Gardner stepped up in a big way. Starting in the No. 5 spot, Gardner fired a 6-over 42, delivering a clutch performance when the team needed it most.
Merrill also delivered a strong performance from the No. 2 position, shooting 8-over 44, while junior McGregor Byrne contributed from the No. 1 spot with a 9-over 45.
