Looking for a simple golf chipping technique that actually works? Whether you’re exploring golf chipping for beginners or you’ve been struggling with fat and thin chip shots for years — the answer isn’t another tip. It’s changing your pattern entirely.
If your short game is costing you shots every round, this lesson is for you. Most golfers trying to improve their chip shots jump from tip to tip, adding more instructions and more anxiety when all they need to do is change one simple pattern. My student Danny had no idea whether he was going to fat it or thin it every time he stood over a chip shot around the green. Once we stopped adding band-aids and simply rebuilt his technique around three natural patterns, consistent contact started coming on its own — with almost no practice required.
In this short game lesson I’ll show you exactly what I showed Danny. Whether you want to stop chunking chip shots, cure your chipping yips, build real confidence around the green or simply understand how to chip a golf ball properly for the first time — this is where to start. And here’s a number worth knowing: improving your short game saves the average golfer 4.9 shots per round. Nothing you do on the range comes anywhere close to that.

Danny rocks!
I play on links Dan..putter for me mate 😂 20 yards and in..
Spot on. Great stuff.
Let's freaking go 😎🏌️
Love your laid back teaching style. For me working on relaxed repeatable motions is key. When I focus on too many things in my swing it's all over the place.
Thanks.
Danny
For these types of chips do you get closer to the ball, and a bit further away from about 20 to 30 yard chips?
Great video- can you also do one on pitching if this pattern applies. Thanks
Definitely needed this video.
I’ve definitely got too much of pattern 1 where the club goes around. This pattern of movement where the left hip is up and back follows from last week on full shots. So coherent, so good 🔥 Thanks Danny.
I like it you make it seems so simple not a lot of instructions. Thank you.
Last monday I played my first round after three months. My swing on almost all shots was just like before the break. But my chipping was totally a lost cause. I must have added at least 15 shots to my score by hitting the ground behand the ball. Now I've seen this video I can confirm that I was probably doing one or more of these faults on each chip. I've not cut the back garden lawn yet so tomorrow I'll spend a while chipping the diagonals (around 30 yards) trying to follow your advice. I'll not delete the notification so that I can let you know Sunday if things changed.
Argh, "rock, not rotation" is worth the price of admission, thanks!
How come I can’t find the downloadable guide? Easy flow is the way to go, choppy just makes you sloppy.

Absolutely infuriating, how something I wanted to do naturally, rising into contact, I assumed was a fault and tried to eradicate from my game. I've come to an accomodation with the putting yips, if I can do the same with chipping I'll let you know! Thanks Danny
My game is the pliving roof that Danny's method here is the one to learn.
Another invaluable tip from Mr Maude….could be a game changer…
Danny, 16 seconds in and you've holed it mid sentence, relax, my girl is home and she can see the TV
The first few seconds of the video, the story of my life 😢
I find by trying to make my right elbow barely move from the body, back swing using left hand, and press the ball with right hand works for me. Finish depending on the trajectory I want.
Joe Mayo would love this!
Danny, your last point … going up! I just tried the whole video parts in my garden. And going up with my body… omg!!! It is unbelievable, no it becomes so much easier for me!! Thanks 🙏
I still watch the video of your lesson you gave to your camera man a while back when my chipping gets a little off.
Always great advise. Thanks Danny
That distance allows for a confident stroke. But what about short ones
Another great video. Introducing patterns is a great way to approach learning the swing. The last few videos have really impacted my practice sessions.
When I use a baseball grip (fingers not interlocked) for chipping, it's so easy but I feel like I'm doing something wrong. I do notice that I don't rotate with the baseball grip.
I Like your shoes Danny. What brand are they?
Another great video Danny! 🥰
Hope you are well…about a month away from returning to the course after right hip surgery…looking forward to using the Danny chipping method which allowed me to chip in more shots last season then any of the previous 53 years!! Have a great season!!
Thanks!
Another very helpful lesson! Thanks
Lovely drill from chipping. Cheers.
I note that your arms(not the forearms) stay virtually in contact with the chest or rib cage.
Worked with a Scottish instructor last week on chipping. His logic in the pattern is that when your shot is coming from your body, you only have 1 real moving part. Chest tracks with clubhead. Feels stiff at first but holy cow I looked like a chipping pro. Looked just like this pattern
I tend to "stab" at chip shots. Very frustrating.
