In the video above, Dr. Greg Rose and TPI biomechanist Corey Koller compared vertical ground reaction force patterns from PGA TOUR players hitting driver, distance wedges, and chips.

The data highlights something instructors probably understand intuitively, but rarely quantify. The way players use the ground is fundamentally different depending on the task.

  1. The issue here is the average human conflates weight and mass, so when you tell them they ‘get lighter’ they think their body has somehow become smaller. You even used the wrong term yourself when you said the force plate measures less mass. Force plates don’t measure mass, they measure weight.

  2. can you do a full video on this instead of barely 30 seconds to cover short game differences..

  3. Lol Ryan Gerard has been all over my YouTube feed since he hit the flagstick in Hawaii.

  4. would be nice to see the screen cap of the graphs and 3d wireframe of the swing during the explanations instead of b-roll of the host staring at the screen.

  5. Hi guys, love the videos and the insight you explain so damn easy.

Is there a drill, tip or best a video that explains ground force and use of the hands and arms.

No matter what I can do one or the other. How to transfer energy from ground over arms and hands.

    Cheer's

  6. Have you guys measured or studied grip pressure & forces throughout the swing? It'd be interesting to see a video on how and when pros push and pull on the club grip to gain club head speed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I doubt they're holding the club like their holding a small bird throughout the entire swing?

  7. Dr. Greg Rose and Dave Phillips, you two are absolutely amazing and have taught me everything! These videos are phenomenal. I would really appreciate it if you could make a video of golfers who unintentionally stand and “lose their posture” during the takeaway, like me.
