  1. Slow motion makes it a check to head..they apparently dont account for broeser pulled back to avoid the check after the shot and rakell also was making contact from behind. Boeser was doing everything he could to tie the game and they were doing everything to prevent that. Shame

  2. I'm a Capitals fan and I am biased against the Penguins, but I don't think that was a consistent punishment. In a vaccuum, I would say it's a fair punishment. But with the NHL's long history of woefully inadequate suspensions, it feels very strange that I think they actually gave someone the appropriate punishment this time. This punishment isn't consistent with the punishment the NHL has been handing out to other players, and I'd be quite upset if I was a Penguins fan.

  3. While at the same time, Tom Wilson continues to deliver cheap shot after cheap shot and there's nothing but crickets from the joke known as the NHL front office.

  4. As lifelong Pens fan this is wild, especially considering some plays made by a certain Caps player his entire career seeing little more than a fine fit worse hits than this 99% of the time. Best not to mention the style of play of Trouba or M Tkachuk.

I'd be fine with a 1 game suspension, he did catch him in the head and it was unavoidable, but it definitely didn't look intentional. It was an awkward play where Rust is skating in hot to cover his goalie down on the ice (who just put on an amazing performance in the closing minutes of that game), goes to put a body on the guy in front (Boeser), throws a shoulder into him blindly (I don't even think Rust saw him the 2 seconds before the hit), Boeser is turning out of the play and into Rust, now Rust's shoulder that was probably aimed at Boeser's shoulder is now going into his chest and incidentally his chin, and then over extends as the play now gets awkward and the play he thought he was making is now mostly empty air. Turned into a harder hit than he meant, and part of that was Rust going a little too hard and Boeser just turning at the wrong time.

3 games for a not-headhunting call is wild. NHL needs consistency with these kind of rulings going forward now, and handing out 5-10 game suspensions for INTENTIONAL dirty hits if this is the new precedent. Doubtful though.

  5. Weak. Yeah maybe they technically can call it a suspension-realistically though this isnt the same hockey as old. Glad I dont watch todays games.

  6. 3 games???? Give me a break, one game if that….hold everyone to the same standard. He’s not a dirty player.

  7. Once again, the NHL are going heavy handed on suspensions, especially on players who got minor penalties or first offenders like Rust.

Its ok to suspend players if he got a Major and Game Misconduct, or Match Penalty, not for those that get Minor or Double Minor Penalties.

  8. How is that a three-game suspension? I've seen so much worse and only one game suspensions. What am I missing here?

  9. Rust is not a dirty player and three games is excessive given his clean history. One game here is justifiable. Boeser starts to pivot back as Rust heads in for the hit, missing the body and hitting the head. Rakell's hit is also nasty and whiplashy. Hope Boeser is OK.

  10. Absolutely B.S, no history and you get 3 games. Yet, Wilson can Happy Gilmore take his skate off and stab some dude, and get a 1 game. Yes it checks the boxes, but you didnt take into account that HE WAS LOOKING THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. Absolutely joke

  11. Rusty has never had history of a cheap shot player. Some hits to head are going to be completely unavoidable. All the NHL accomplished was place a black mark on a player who likely deserves Bing or Masterson awards

  12. Far from "picking his head" he was picking shoulder and Boeser backed up seconds before the hit… video footage keeps cutting out without showing the full play… Rakell cross check to the numbers looked worse.

  13. It's not incorrect that this satisfies the criteria for a suspension, but the assertion that this was a bad line/move is wrong. Clearly he's attempting a box-out move, one that you'd perform every time in that situation. It just so happened to hit his head. As many have noted, this ruling is inconsistent with the lack of enforcement for those players who intentionally hit people to the head (Tom Willson, Brad Marchand, etc.) Those players have made their careers on being dirty and attempting to injure, get em out.

  14. Now is it a hit to the head sadly yes was it intentional by Rust I’m going to say absolutely not. But since Brock got hurt I expected a game suspension. But 3 games for no prior anything is the definitive problem I see here. The next time I see a repeat offender do it. The suspension better be 5 games minimum or this is a big problem.

  15. "Bryan Rust suspended three games for illegal check to the head"… DAMMIT!!!!!!! Please show me the legal check to the head. 😕

  16. Unbelievable! 3 game suspension. Wilson's and Ovie's were worst than Rusty's. They got a pass…Love the NHL but never consistent
