Dos Pueblos boys golf edged out Santa Barbara High by one stroke in a non-league crosstown rivalry battle on Thursday in a nine-hole match at Rancho San Marcos.
The Chargers combined for a team score of 218 to beat out the Dons, who finished the day at 219 on the par-35 course.
“I commend my team for keeping their composure despite the tough close match with Santa Barbara. It is always a fun time to play with the Dons,” Dos Pueblos head coach Kevin Ahlers said.
The Dos Pueblos duo of Coulter Jay and Sam McNaughton led their squad by each carding a 42. They were followed by teammates Colt Roberts (44), Parker Hickman (45) and Connor Nightingale (45).
Meanwhile, Santa Barbara High’s Alex Ortega earned the match medalist honors by shooting a 41.
The rest of the Dons’ golfers were Dimitri Tar (43), Logan Gankas (44), Peyton Webley (44), Owen Quirk (47) and Jack Alzina (49).
“In the last three years, every match with DP has been decided by two or less strokes,” Santa Barbara High head coach Ryan Throop said. “It was a beautiful breezy day. The course conditions were excellent and the scores and nerves were a little higher than usual.
“I know our players are disappointed in the close loss, but they are excited for the return league match in about five weeks.”
Dos Pueblos and Santa Barbara High will both compete in the Coyote Invitational on Monday in Calabasas.
