Spring golf is underway on the Palouse. Both men’s and women’s golf have begun their spring schedule, and WSU has had mixed results so far.
The men’s team has competed in two tournaments this spring. From Feb. 12-14, they travelled to Lihue, Hawaii, for the John Burns Intercollegiate tournament. WSU finished 12th in a 19-team field, squarely in the middle of the pack. Their final score was 19-over-par.
Individually, the Cougars’ top performer was Sam Renner, who finished two-over-par, tied for 21st. Ben Borgida also finished in the top-40, with a score of five-over-par.
Just two days later, WSU went to La Quinta, Calif., to compete at The Prestige, from Feb. 16-17. The Cougars’ top performer was Garrett Harrison, who was 10-over-par, tied for 13th.
The men next head to Lake Merced, Calif., to compete at the Desimone Invitational, which begins March 9.
The WSU women’s team has also competed in two tournaments this spring. They first travelled to Palm Desert, Calif., for the Mountain Classic Matchplay, from Feb. 9-11. There, they defeated Weber State in round one, winning 2-0-2. In round two, the Cougars lost to Montana State, 1-0-4. WSU bounced back in round three, defeating Utah Valley 4-0-1.
From there, the women made the trip to Peoria, Ariz., for the Westbrook Invitational on Feb. 22-23. They finished 13th in a 15-team field. Their best individual performer was Kaitlyn Helm, who tied for 31st.
Their next tournament is the Juli Inkster Invitational, which begins March 9 in San Francisco, Calif.
