STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Coming off his first collegiate title earlier on Tuesday, Tarleton State Men’s Golf redshirt freshman Alvaro Pastor has been named WAC Men’s Golfer of the Week.
Pastor shot 16-under-par to become Tarleton State’s third player to win an individual title in the Division I era, taking the Golden Nugget Invitational. The Madrid, Spain, native set three Division I era school records (Low 18 – 65, Low 36 – 131 and Low 54 – 200). He tallied 16 birdies and an eagle to win the individual title by two strokes.
Collecting seven birdies in the first round for a 7-under-par 65, Pastor followed up with an eagle on the No. 10 hole in the second round and tallied a 6-under-par 66 to close the first day. His second round score also cracked the top five lowest 18-hole scores in the Division I era. Pastor finished the last round with four birdies and a 3-under-par 69 to take the individual championship.
The honor marks the first weekly/monthly award for Pastor during his time at Tarleton State. Tarleton State has earned WAC Men’s Golfer of the Week honors in each of the last three weeks it has competed. Sophomore Luis Buech and freshman Maximilian Bjornstrom previously earned the honor earlier in the spring.
After redshirting last season, Pastor has been one of the top performers for the Texans in 2025-26. In addition to his win at the Golden Nugget Invitational, Pastor has recorded three top 10 finishes and cracked the top 20 four times this season. He currently leads the team in stroke average (70.2), low 18-hole score (65), low 36-hole score (131) and low 54-hole score (200).
Pastor wrapped up the fall portion of the season by shooting 6-under-par in the first round and finished at 5-under-par to tie for sixth place at the FAU Invitational. He played a crucial part in helping the Texans clinch their first team title in the event, the Texans’ first win as a team in the Division I era. Pastor continued his strong play in his first spring tournament of the year, shooting 1-under-par at the Border Olympics to tie for eighth place.
On the national stage, Pastor represented Spain in the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships. He finished 24th overall with a 3-under-par finish.
Prior to his arrival in Stephenville, Pastor was ranked fifth in Spain’s U18 rankings and owned a 760 WAGR Ranking when he signed with the Texans. He won the 2022 RSHEC Men’s Individual Championship and the Campeonato Absolute de Castilla Y Leon, also capturing the title of the 2024 Copa Andalucia. Pastor recorded 17 top 10 finishes in tournaments across Spain before signing with the Texans.
Tarleton State returns to action March 16-17, competing at the All-American Intercollegiate in Humble, Texas.
