As someone who is involved in the automotive community and also golfs, I’ve always wondered how badly courses are damaged following concours events. Any firsthand insight from those who maintain courses or have played immediately following the event would be appreciated.

  1. Probably depends on the course, time of year, rain/softness.

Need somebody that plays Brookside in Pasadena regularly to chime in (courses around the Rose Bowl). They turn one of the courses into a literal parking lot several times a month during football season.

I would suspect not much at all. D’elegance is at the end of summer (i.e. 9 months into California’s annual drought) so the ground isn’t going to be soft from rain and the grounds will be able to control the watering to not soften it. Also the classic cars at these events are going to be much lighter than your typical Toyota Camry (for the most part) and won’t be putting near as much stress on the soil

They only use #18 for it.  Though hospitality tents were all over the place too.  Thought they made a temp green for 18, a hundred yards or so short?  It’s been awhile.

I didn’t notice any damage afterwards, but I didn’t play there around that time, and I didn’t work on the golf side of the operation.  (Besides shuttling golfers around.)  They’ve been doing this event a long time.

An absolute kick in the ass if you like vintage cars.

One of the courses I play on is also used as a parking lot for college football games and you’d be surprised how well the turf holds up

I don’t know about any of that, but those cars are stunningly pretty.

People seem to forget that they drive mowers on the fairways and greens everyday.
